Ephesians 5:3-7
August 23th 2026, Fourth Lord’s Day of the Month
Rev. Tadashi Nagae, Pastor
Last time, we were taught to be imitators of God, to live as children who are loved by Him. In today’s passage, we are taught to walk properly as saints.
First, we must not walk improperly as the saints.
The first is not to take sin lightly. Greed is a sin of idolatry.
Do not be deceived by empty words. God hates sin. Never be deceived by empty words such as “Everyone does this much, so it’s okay.”
Do not join sinful conduct. Although we should love sinners and draw close to them, we must not participate in their sinful conduct.
Second, we should walk in a proper manner as saints. This means expressing gratitude with words. We should fix our eyes on God’s grace. As what we see changes, our words will be also changed. What we say reveals what we see, and what is in our hearts. Let us walk in a manner properly as saints!
<Word of the Bible>
3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. 4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.
Ephesians 5: 3-4 (English Standard Version)
