Ephesians 5:25-28
October 4th 2026, First Lord’s Day of the Month
Rev. Tadashi Nagae, Pastor
In this passage, the will of the Lord for husbands is described: It is to love as Christ loved. What kind of love is this? This instruction applies not only to husbands but to all Christians.
First, it is a love that gives oneself. While we were still sinners, Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us. Through His sacrifice, He granted us eternal life. In the same way, we are to love our wives and our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Second, it is a love that seeks the highest good of others. Christ gave Himself up in order to sanctify us. Therefore, we should pray that our wives and our fellow believers may be sanctified spiritually, and above all, we ourselves need to be the examples of such godliness.
Third, it is a love that cherishes others as oneself. We are often quick to notice the faults of others and to view them critically. Yet we need to see them as our own bodies, treating them with the same care and concern.
We have received immeasurable love from Christ. Therefore, let us become the ones who, as Christ, extend our love to others unconditionally!
