Ephesians 5:29-33
October 11th 2026, Second Lord’s Day of the Month
Rev. Tadashi Nagae, Pastor

The church is not a building; it is the body of Christ.

First, Christ loves the church and nourishes and cares for it. He loves it as His own body and nourishes and cherishes it through His Word. Furthermore, the Lord uses brethren to provide encouragement and comfort, thereby nourishing and caring for the church.

Second, Christ has united the church with Himself. Just as a husband and wife become one flesh through marriage, the church is made one with Christ. They share an inseparable bond. While there may be people in the church who disagree with one another, we must not forget that we have been made one in Christ and brought into a relationship of mutual love.

Third, those who have known the love of Christ are called to live in response to that love. Here, too, we are taught about the marriage relationship: the husband loves his wife as Christ does, and the wife respects and submits to her husband. This principle applies to the church as well. Those who have received Christ’s love are to love and serve one another. This is the Lord’s command.

Let us also cherish and love the church that Christ loves!

<Word of the Bible>
29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body.
