1 Corinthians 11: 23-29
August 31st Fifth Holy Day of the Month
Rev. Tadashi Nagae, Pastor
Jesus commanded the church to observe two sacraments: baptism and the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper has several meanings, but today we will focus on three of them.
First, it is to engrave the sacrifice of the Lord in our mind. In ancient Egypt, the Israelites slaughtered lambs, shed their blood, put the blood to the top and both sides of the doorframes, and they escaped the judgment of the LORD. By being torn and shedding His blood, Jesus made it possible so that the sins of all who believe in him to be forgiven. This also marked the time of the new covenant.
Second, it is for the church to be one. It is sin to despise the church, which is the body of the Lord. The Lord wants us to love one another, forgive one another,and to be one, as those who have been made members of the church, his body.
Third, it is to proclaim the Lord's death until He comes again. God wants us to share this message of love and hope with all people.
With this in mind, let us examine ourselves. We are conducting the Lord's Supper today. Let us come before the Lord solemnly and with open hearts.
<The Word of the Bible>
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
